About

Many times over the years I have wanted to write a book.  I have actually sat down and completed one and even tried to get it published.  It was during that experience that I realized that while I love to write, I don’t think I would enjoy being in the spotlight and having deadlines or book tours and such that writers who break through have to commit too.  I am just a home body at heart.  I go to work, spend time in church, and head home.  Home is where I am the majority of the time.

The name “Pen Scratches” came about because I could not come up with a theme title.  It originally started out as “Pen Scratches on Empty Paper”, but my son said “Why don’t you just use ‘Pen Scratches'”.  I guess it makes sense in an odd kind of way.

As I explore my desire to put pen to paper and create something lasting I feel humbled that people are reading what I write.  I like to imagine them clicking on one of my pages and reading my stories and not being able to quit, so they click on the next page and then the next.  Clicking and reading until they catch up with all the chapters in my book.  Then not able to quit reading start clicking on my pages that aren’t related to the book.  The ones that come straight from my heart.  My greatest wish is that those people that are reading my stories – my friends, the ones that my friends have told about my blog, the ones that I don’t know who found my blog on their own, my wish is that they would leave a kind remark or comment on my page.  I would love to have feedback even if it is just to say -“I read your blog….”.

    Hi Charlene,
Thanks for stopping by, I’m glad you liked my post. I’m pretty new to this too. I actually started blogging as a way to get my writing and photography out to the world at large without having to ‘sell’ it.
I would love to write a book one day too, but dread the thought of trying to find an editor/publisher. ugh!

Yeah hi don’t think I have another one I want to write. Innocent dreams was that one for me. I would love to know if you read it what you think.

Sorry, I haven’t read it yet, just your post about your truck ride and looked around a little bit. I’ve been short on time to spend online lately. I’d love to read it when I get the chance. Will let you know when I do. 🙂

I love the name pen scratches, it really suits the world of blogging. i also have the love of writing and a book would be amazing but extremely unlikely. as you kow i am new to the world of blogs and i really appreciate your support. it is wonderful to be able to write snippest from my brain and get feedback on them. it’s a lovely way to write. i imagine the long road of creating a book to be a little lonely and i would not have much confidence in how it was going! i also enjoy the anonimity of it especially with the subjects i will be mostly writing about being so very personal. i will be reading you and thanks again for the tips, best wishes

Thank you, my youngest son helped me come up with the name, it started out as Pen Scratches on Blank Pages, but he suggested I shorten it. He was right, it turns out that he had a lot of insight. I started focusing on my creative side last year and most of the art that I have posted is done with a variety of pens so the name fits with both the writing and the drawing. Both of them start with a pen scratching on a blank page. If you would like to read the book I wrote it is in the category Innocent Dreams. The story is entirely fiction, the towns are real but the street names are made up (I hope), I used places that I actually lived because I was familiar with them. Have fun with your blog, it is yours to do with as you want. You can post as much or as little as you want. You can actually skip months and come back and post some more. Just enjoy the freedom you have. I grew up in the same situation as you, so I know just how personal your blog is going to get. I have not ventured into that area of my life with my blog, but have a feeling that in some aspect I will in the future. I love the name you chose for your blog too, the shadows are always there, the little fragments that set off a trigger. You are doing a very brave thing with your blog. Best wishes.

Hi Charlene! I agree with your son; your pen scratches are filling that once-empty page 🙂 Thanks for the follow and I hope to see you pop in from time to time!
