I Lost My Way!

I made a plan in January to post at least twice a month.  To make sure I stayed active so my friends (followers) would have something to read every once in a while.

The words dried up!

The ideas didn’t gel!

I procrastinated too long!

I let it become a passing thought!

I can’t believe I have not made a post since June!

Summer got in the way, then it was knee surgery, then it was working on the new illustrations for the second Gemma book, I lost my way.

Words have always fascinated me, the flow, the poetry, the pictures created by stringing descriptive words together.

I want to promise I will do better, but I cannot tell a lie.  I will probably be just as bad tomorrow as I have been for the last three months.  I will procrastinate, I will put off, I will not put words to paper, but I will always be thinking about those that read what I want to share.

“Gemma The Sweater Loving Giraffe, World Traveler” has been my confidence challenge this year.  I am tackling actual places in the drawings.  I have spent a great deal of time on them to make sure that the locations are recognizable.  Gemma is traveling the world and she is taking me with her.  The story will be written shortly, she’s going to tell the tale of places and new friends met on the journey.

I can’t wait to reintroduce Marvin (the White House (Washington DC) and Stonehenge), Giselle (Venice Italy), and Rose (Easter Island) along with my new characters Arnie Armadillo (Aztec Monument, Mexico), Polly Panda (Great Wall of China), Kirby Koala (Sydney Opera House, Australia), Pippa the Pink Poodle (Eiffel Tower, France), Robby Roadrunner (Taos Pueblo, New Mexico), Roscoe Rabbit (Grand Canyon, Arizona), Burt the Bat (Big Ben, England), Daisy, Dena and Duncan the Dolphins (Bermuda), Mario the Marmot (Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy), and SeaAnna the Seal (Golden Gate Bridge, California).  All of these new characters (well, maybe not Pippa, but she is a French Poodle) are native to the location that Gemma is visiting. Along with those locations Gemma will also be visiting a museum and a Holland tulip field by herself.

Book Cover, she’s on her way! (not the best picture)

So while I lost my way in keeping up on here, I have found my way creating drawings that I never ever considered myself capable of 5-10-15-or even 30 years ago.  My mom said it best: “Who knew I would be the mom of a published author/illustrator!” My answer to her was “It took me long enough didn’t it!”

Thanks for reading, leave me a comment or two, I love to hear from friends.

I don’t think you lost your way. Remember what Mr. Jeff Goins says about the importance of living a portfolio life. In my opinion you have been living a portfolio life through exploring other areas of interests while taking time off from your writing to recharge, and to replenish you well of ideas and topics of which to write about.

Thank you, I really have been exploring those other interests. I have been watching tutorials and taking online art classes so I could improve my drawing techniques, these new drawings are the best that I have ever done. I can’t wait to see them in the next book.
