Alaska in Bloom

I love seeing the world through my cousins eyes. She takes the most beautiful pictures.


While most of the lower 48 sees spring and new growth as early as February, we usually don’t get that in Alaska until May.  Seedlings are started in greenhouses, garages, or on kitchen tables and planted mid-May or Memorial Day weekend. The past few weeks has seen the Anchorage bowl and Mat-Su valley burst with color and greenery.

My camera has been a constant companion the last couple of weeks and I find myself scanning the landscaping of buildings, peering down dirt roads, looking around the railroad bend, and searching the shoulder of the road to see what colors pop out.  Besides the multitude of greens in bushes and trees, I’ve viewed orange and white poppies; red, white and pink crabapple trees, lilac bushes in hues of lavender, purple and yellow pansies, lupine with their gradient shades of blue, the periwinkle of bluebells, and wild roses in numerous shades of…
