Thank You Dear Friends

I don’t know who you are, will probably never see your faces but thank you for keeping my blog alive even when I wasn’t.  I can’t believe it has been 3 months since my last post.  I am so grateful that you have visited me these last few months from places all around the world.  I truly expected to see a great big zero on my stats page when I looked at it and was pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case.  And whomever the one person is, that lives in the US and keeps coming back regularly just to see if I have posted anything new, THANK YOU!

I haven’t had much to post about in my publishing journey thus far.  Gemma is still waiting on her Library Of Congress certification, but then I expected that.  After my last post when I introduced Gemma to you I took a little while to research literary agents and publishers.  I found one I really liked and they were really close to home, but alas their webpage states they aren’t accepting anything new at this time.  My heart fell, but then I remember, the doors will open when they are supposed to open. Even in my procrastination, the doors will open when they are supposed to open.  In fact they will open in spite of me.

So in October I took a chance with direct contact with a publisher.  I submitted my manuscript in mid-October during their open window.  That submission window opened on October 1st and closed on November 30th.  I still don’t know if they even received my submission.  I guess the wait is on to see if they like what I have submitted.  I am going to guess that the reading of the submissions doesn’t start until after the window closes so I am hoping that somewhere floating around this publishing house someone is reading my book and oohing and aahing over my pictures. It would be a wonderful Christmas present to find an email this month telling me that they were interested in publishing.

During this time of waiting I have begun the process of drawing the next book.  This time Gemma is traveling the world and meeting new friends in several of the new place she visits.  So far she has met Polly the Panda in China and Berty the Bat in England.  Arnie the Armadillo is slowly taking shape as she visits Mexico.  She will be meeting Kirby the Koala in Australia, and Dolly and Dotty the Dolphins as she learns to snorkel.  There are a number of other friends she will be meeting and of course her two friends Giselle the Gazelle and Marvin the Monkey from my first book will be with her on some of her travels.

I started drawing the new pictures at the first of October but it has been slow going.  I have made a conscious decision this time to make copies of the pictures after they are drawn in just black and white.  I have found that if I want to make my book into a coloring book that is much easier to make copies of the pictures at the beginning then to go back later and digitally erase all the colors.  I also put away all my ink pens except my black sharpies during this season of holidays.  It is so much easier to keep my dining table clean when there aren’t pens spread out every where. Currently my pens are stored in these boxes and in a tote bag that is not seen here.  These 5 boxes are full. With a large variety of pens in all different shapes, sizes, and brands.

Once Christmas celebrations and family visits are over this month, these boxes will be opened back up and creative color madness will once again fill up the dining table.  I am proud of myself in achieving this non-madness for as long as I have.  The pens in those boxes keep calling my name saying they want to be a part of the fun.  Soon, very soon.

Thanks again for reading, I hope you have a December filled with blessings.  May your Christmas be special and your loved ones be near. Don’t forget to celebrate the reason for the season in all your busyness of church, family, friends, and work.

And if I don’t make it back on here before the new year, Merry Christmas! and Happy New Years!!!
