Living Moments

There have been so many people leaving us so unexpectedly this last year.  The one great comfort I get from their leaving is that I know they believed in Christ.  So I know I will be seeing them again some time.  Recently a dear friend was in a freak auto accident that took his life.  He was just starting a fun camping weekend with his sons celebrating an annual family event.  He was living in the moment.  He was taking advantage of time that could be spent with loved ones. I know he didn’t think that this would be his last moment.

Every day we have these moments that we take for granted. They are the ones that pass as if they never existed, just a fragment of our memory.  A single space in time that even though we don’t recognize the moment of for what it is, others that are sharing that moment do.  They can either look back on it with fondness or with despair.  They may share that moment with others or keep it locked deep inside where only they can see it.

Some people record their moments to share with others either in journals, blogs, or books.  Others share their moments in oral story telling.  And still others hold those moments close to the vest, afraid to let others see what they see or know what they know.  The numerous ways that moments are shared or not shared helps to provide the spice of life.  I find myself wishing for moments that have passed.  Moments with a loved one that is no longer with us.

Today I heard a song that I have never heard before. The words of that song are ones that I have had on numerous occasions.  The song is “Telephone in Heaven” by Kelly Ray.  The sentiments in the song are ones that when spoken aloud may sound silly or mushy, however just about everyone I know has felt this same way.  Just one more moment with that special person or persons.  One more opportunity to say “I’m Sorry”, “I Love You!”, “I Miss You!”  One more opportunity to ask for the secret ingredient in grandma’s special Christmas recipe.  Or one more moment to look that person in the face and simply smile and hug them.  One more moment to hear their voice.  One more moment to hear them singing out of tune, or if they were really vocally blessed to hear them singing in tune.

I spend many of my living moments being grateful that I have moments left to share with others.  I can only hope that I am creating a cherished memory with them.  I hope that when my living moments are all used up that those I touched look back at our time together and smile and say “I wish I had a telephone so I could call heaven and hear her voice one more time”.  I also hope that I will recognize the living moments in others lives that I have been blessed to share.  I pray that I don’t have blinders on that limit my view to that one place in time and don’t let me see the greater picture.

Here is the song, listen to the words, maybe you will recognize the living moments in your life and cherish them.
