500 Words A Day

I have accepted the challenge, I have promised to write 500 words a day.  They can be any words, it doesn’t matter what they are as long as there are 500 of them by the end of the day.  The only stipulation is that they can not be email words.  What a bummer, what if that email was a long winded totally out of control rant to a friend? Nope, it won’t count.  They can be a simple blog post or an answer to the daily prompt.  They can be a chapter in the book you are trying to write.  It really doesn’t matter.  And they do not have to be edited.  Just written. One. Word. At. A. Time. At this point counting these words I have typed one hundred thirty one words.

That was so fast.  So my goal with this challenge is to get back into writing my book.  I have procrastinated on it for 4 months, I have only opened it up one time to read, edit and add some more.  One time in four months does not get a book written.  Procrastinating that long, the flow and train of thought that spurred me on has floated away.  I am going to have to read it all over again, get the feeling and ambiance back and continue on.  It doesn’t help that it’s my life story, the ambiance should be there all the time, but sometimes the thoughts change, the tone of the piece changes, and sometimes the urgency in the written word changes depending on the length of time and the type of memory.

I could avoid it all together and decide, 500 words a day is just too much.  I have so many other things that I could be doing right now.  I could be working on one of my illustrations or reading a book or sleeping or working, or just about anything other than writing 500 more words.  But that won’t get the job done.  This procrastination of mine will get out of hand if I let it.  I am over half way through with the writing of the story that I want to write.  I am almost through the bad stuff and just short of hitting the good stuff.  The years after I became an adult.  The ones where I had lots and lots of happiness.  The ones where I traveled down many unexpected roads and had the time of my life.  I have put off writing those chapters because I wanted something good to look forward to as I was writing the hard stuff.  I ask myself now, why did I wait?  I am constantly going back and rereading what I wrote, editing and adding more to the sections.  Writing the good stuff would be handled the same way.  I would have something tangible to read that would help me to get through the rest.

I have thought about that a lot, but because I am writing it in almost chronological order, I would have to keep going back and reworking it and reliving it anyways. So why not just do it once.

And so there you have it, my 500 Words A Day challenge.  Am I up for it.  I think so.  I am finishing this post at five hundred forty six words.

wow, intriguing. I kinda go through everyone’s work I read from the My 500 words FB page. I rarely if ever go to their blogs and comment. You were a standout for some reason. I applaud your ability to pull me in and away from FB, I normally don’t click links either. If this is any indication, I think your book is gonna get a lot of attention girly. Well done, keep up the goodwork! BTW I am Sarita. My hubby Clarence changed our name on FB to be included and jammed our names together, when I am mostly present on FB and the internet. Just for your FYI. Now everyone addresses me as Clarence on FB “lol” men…. BTW very proud of you, you’ve inspired me to do my best to keep up.

Wow, thank you Sarita, this has been a step out of my comfort zone experience. I have never put my work out there like this before. I really appreciate the words of encouragement.

Congratulations on completing the first part of your journey. As for myself, I just completed my 29th day of the challenge. I found that I have learned lots about myself and about my abilities, as you will too as you embark further on your journey of the 31 day writing challenge. As for myself, I find that this challenge is a great motivator. It also gives me something exciting to look forward to each day. Just say focused, and you’ll do just fine. You can do it. I also want to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article. It’s interesting. You have great ability when it comes to giving voice to a piece of writing. I enjoyed reading it. I also wish you continued success on your journey. Have a great day.
