Winter Weather Delights

I have always loved color, the more striking the better.  So when I see a sunrise or sunset or rainbows I can’t help but stop and try to capture their beauty.  Having lived all over the southern part of the US and in a couple different countries I have seen some extremely beautiful skies.  It always amazes me the artistry of God’s creation.  Having explored my creative side more in-depth these past couple years it simply amazes me the variety of color that I have not seen before.  I look at the sky and some days I am breathless, I want to take every possible picture I can and keep it for my own personal enjoyment.

When I do feel that urge there are times that I simply pull over to the side of the road roll my window down and take picture after picture.  When I can’t stop, I will simply say a little thank you to God for the breathtaking beauty that He is providing.  What I have noticed is that the more I look for the beauty the more I find.  I would love to be watching over God’s shoulder as he slings his mighty paint brush across the sky in vista after vista.  I find myself wishing I was the type of artist that worked in paints and could do that same thing as I create a masterpiece.  And then I remember, God has given me a talent, one that I am exploring and creating with that brings joy to others.  I am creating my own personal masterpieces with each stoke of the pen.

When I named my blog Pen Scratches the intent was to focus on the written word, God has expanded that to include creating pictures with the same medium.  Each evening when I sit down at the table and grab another pen to add one more detail to another picture, the sound of the Pen Scratching on the page is different from one type of pen to the next.  I am making my splashes on paper the way God does His in the sky.

When I look at the sky and see the burning red clouds or light purple hues of an evening sunset, I often wonder what the people on the other side of the world are viewing as they are waking up to their sunrise.  Do they see the same thing I am seeing or is it slightly changed for their view.  I find myself wishing I knew someone that lived where the sun was rising while it was setting here and reach out to them and say please take a picture of the sky for me, so I can compare it to my picture of the night.

This winter has been one of vast weather changes.  People in the North East have been hit with large amounts of snow for the second winter in a row.  Here in the south, it has been a little different.  We haven’t gotten the snow that I would love to see but we have received some ice.  I would like to share some of the wonder of Southern Ice.2015-02-17 10.44.34 2015-02-17 10.48.11 2015-02-17 10.48.19 2015-02-17 10.49.00 2015-02-17 10.50.46 2015-02-17 10.51.02 2015-02-17 13.09.23 2015-02-17 13.09.51 2015-02-17 13.12.17 2015-02-17 13.12.23 2015-02-17 13.19.47
