Scheduling Time

Last year I neglected my blog in an attempt to write my autobiography.  I have not finished my book yet, but it is closer to the end then it is to the beginning so I am getting there.  While I wrote quite a bit last year what I really found myself doing more of than anything was procrastinating.

I would give up my writing time to text, chat, play on Facebook, play computer games and even work on some drawings, I would do anything that would distract me from the goal of finishing the book.  I became adept at perfecting avoidance.  So adept that I have not set up my computer where I do all my typing for over a month.  It is much easier to have an excuse if the computer is not set up.

This year, I am going to attempt to change the way I look at time.  I have set another goal for myself.  I love my drawings, they relax me, they give me a creative output that I didn’t know I had until recently.  So I am writing a children’s book and I will be doing all of the illustrations.  It is going to take me a while, these drawings take time to complete, but my goal is to have the book written by the end of the year.  I am going to need about 20-25 pictures, and I have had a great start so far.  I have started two pictures, one is almost complete all that is left to do on that one is the sky and the other is drawn in pencil ready to start the coloring process.  I have found the ideas for the next ones so now I need to meet the challenge, however I have found myself procrastinating on that too.  Thinking I should really be drawing instead of sitting here playing solitaire.  Then I look at the table with my pens spread everywhere and play another game.

This year, I am also going to finish my autobiography.  I have written the majority of the hard stuff, there are just a few things that need to be researched so that I get the dates correct, but it is almost finished.  I think that part of the procrastination is that I have put off writing about the good stuff so that I would have something good to look forward too.  If I were write those chapters before I finished the hard stuff, that would mean that there wouldn’t be anything good to look forward to next.

But I am going to change that thinking too.  I have been blessed as an adult to have a good life.  I have had a 27 year marriage to a man that I adore and love so much, it has survived so many rough times, and over the last three years it has gotten nothing but stronger.  With my husbands help, we raised two wonderful sons, these sons will succeed far beyond what I could ever dream of.  They are strong young men, with Christian values, I couldn’t love them more or be more proud of them.  With the exception of a very few jobs, I have had a wonderful career life.  I have never struck gold as far as the corporate ladder goes and earning big money, but I have struck gold in the experiences and friendships that I have had over the years. Those could never be replaced by riches.

So this year will be a year of growth.  Last year I chose the word Release for my word of the year.  It stood by me all year.  I have been able to release a lot of the hurts I have had over the years.  Because I have written it down, my brain is not flooded with the memories like it was before.  I am calmer, less stressed, and very blessed.  I am going to keep the word Release this year, I still have a lot of stuff to release.  However, I am going to add another word – forgiveness.  I want to be able to give total forgiveness to those that have hurt me and with the release of the memories, I am succeeding.

This year will be a year of creativeness, far beyond what I have ever attempted before.  In addition to that creativeness, I am going to set a goal of writing a post at least twice a month about things that really matter to me.  I may even share a picture or two.  We shall see.

Thank you all for reading, may your year be blessed as well.
