Five Levels of Life

I have been so neglectful of my blog this month.  I started a new project on December 10th for my husbands counseling services.  I almost procrastinated too long, in fear of tackling something new.  So in the hopes of finishing these before Christmas, I made a conscious decision to let my blog just sit here and gather dust for a while.   I finished the painting portion on Christmas day.

This is the beginnings, what I was able to do in the first couple days.

These nesting dolls represent our life.  We have so many different levels that all interact.  Choice, Physical, Emotional, Thought and Spirit.  This is my interpretation of these dolls:

2013-12-12 22.28.18  2013-12-12 22.28.06  The first level, the one most neglected part of our life is our inner most life, our Spirit Life.  That is usually the last part of our life that we give any attention too.  Sometimes we are so busy that we forget it is even there.

2013-12-18 23.58.36  2013-12-18 23.58.26 The second level is our Thought Life.  We all have these thoughts that bombard us daily.  “I’m not good enough.”  “Why did I do that?” “I’m so stupid.”  “I don’t deserve this.”  These thoughts are sent to destroy us, not to up lift us.  They need to be changed to: “I am good enough!”  “I am smart!” “I did great, I do deserve this!”

2013-12-18 23.59.28 When we turn our thoughts to our spirit life that is when we begin to pray and grow the spirit within us.

2013-12-23 08.00.09 2013-12-23 08.00.18The third level is our Emotional Life.  Emotions take on all kinds of aspects from extreme sadness to ecstatic joy.  Our emotions can be triggered by our thought or spirit life or they can be triggered by outside sources such as family and friends.

2013-12-23 08.01.24 The extremes of our emotions, the greatest highs and the lowest lows, lead us back to our thought life, which in turn brings us back to our spirit life.

2013-12-24 20.48.39 2013-12-24 20.49.03 The fourth level is our Physical Life.  The human body is designed to be physical.  When we neglect the physical life the rest of our selves are involved too.  Most things physical can be linked to either thoughts or emotions.  “If I don’t run just one more mile, I will gain that weight back again.”  “If I don’t share my body with someone else they just won’t love me any more.”  “If I don’t see the doctor for that nagging pain, then I just won’t have to know what is really going on.”  “It’s not going to hurt me if I eat one more cookie, smoke one more cigarette, drink one more beer.”

2013-12-24 21.08.46Do you see the link here, Physical is connected to both Thought and Emotions to such a great degree that they are almost inseparable.  When you finally realize that what you are doing to your body is so important, then you will finally turn to your spirit life and let that small little light begin to shine and bring change.

2013-12-25 14.31.57 2013-12-25 14.32.09 The fifth and final level is our Choice Life.  We have been given the freedom of choice.  We can decide what we will do with our bodies and our lives.  All the aspects of Physical, Emotional, Thought, and Spirit are interchangeable.  They are the puzzle pieces that tie the who we are to the what we can become.

2013-12-25 14.34.23 2013-12-25 14.34.58

As I look at the finished dolls, I see something new that I did not realize I was doing when I painted them.  While looking at the Choice Life doll I noticed that a larger portion of the puzzle pieces represent Spirit Life.  Was this my subconscious way of telling myself that I need to focus more time and effort on my spirit life?  I find that most days my spirit life is the most neglected part of my life.  What part of your life do you need to focus on?  What choices will you make?
