I’m So Excited

I stole a line from a friends Facebook post for my title, but those three words describe how I am feeling right now.  I have sold my first picture ever.  After seeing some of the pictures I posted on Facebook a friend from high school asked me to create an original penguin for her collection using the designs that I do.  I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that she likes the picture I created for her.  I always thought I would be a published author, I never gave two thoughts to becoming an artist.   My art was just a creative outlet and doodling.  I have always done some form of creative craft thing.  Whether it was drawing or creating cross stitch needle points or even doing those latch hook rugs.  But I mostly wrote things like poetry and stories and stuff.  This art stuff is something new that I have really gotten into in the last few years.  I have spent a lot of time exploring digital creations using computer programs like Paint and SumoPaint an online creation site.  I have recently, as in just this year, really started exploring my creative side with drawing and inks.  Thanks to my friend who commission a piece of art I can now say I am an artist.  WOW, this floors me.

I feel honored to have this friend purchase my art.  She was a high school friend a couple years older than me.  We played sports together, volleyball, basketball and track.  She didn’t know it then but she was a hero of mine.  I totally looked up to her and wanted to be just like her.  The fact that she would take time as a junior and senior (and a popular one at that) to befriend me and teach me how to play the game better showed me what a generous heart she had.  She is still a hero of mine.

I am doing a happy dance…For my birthday my hubby has even gotten into it and bought me an artists wooden box for me to put my pens in so they weren’t scattered all over the table.  Along that line my son bought me a twelve pack of drawing pencils in a case and he got them specifically because they said “Sketch” on the description.  I know I drive them nuts asking them all the time to look at what I have done and asking their opinion on one design or another.  But, I like to share.  I find it hard to keep my drawings to myself while I am creating them.  I even drive those I work with nuts showing them the designs…I just can’t help it…I’m so excited…in my later 40’s I am finding a hidden talent that I never considered before.  And I just have to share.

I have shown my staff all my pictures, they get to see them from start to finish and they all want one.  So for Christmas this year I am making each one of them a personal design based on their own request.  I can’t wait till they open their presents.  But first I have to get them drawn…

You are so very welcome. Can’t wait to see what type frame you put with it. I use Hobby Lobby here and they have so much to choose from. It would be neat if you could find a black frame with penguins in each corner.
