Life Changes

Life changes every minute that you breath.  Some of the changes are unexpected and happen through no control of your own.  However, most of the changes you expect because you make a list of goals and strive to meet the challenges.  Every list that is created is different for every person.  Many times the lists are things that take moments to achieve, sometimes they take years.  Each list when accomplished changes something in your life.  Either you get a promotion, you locate a long lost friend, you build a house, you have a child.  The lists continue on and on.  Sometimes, you don’t even realize that you are creating a list because nothing is written down.

Six years ago my husband started on his list.  His goal was to go back to school and get a degree.  He started out getting his bachelors degree.  When he finished that his school had a great program for the masters degree so he continued on.  In six years he got a Bachelors of Science in Biblical Studies, a Masters of Pastoral Counseling, and this week he finishes up his Masters of Divinity.

This list of his is going to change both our lives.  Now that he is looking for his own church to pastor, I am going to become a preachers wife.  This is going to be both great and hard at the same time.  I am so very proud of my husband and his accomplishments, but I know I won’t fit into the traditional preachers wife categories.  I don’t play piano, I can barely carry a tune, but I will sing in a choir.  I wear pants to church.  If you see me in a dress the occasion must be something really really important, because I would have had to go out and buy the dress and the shoes for the event.  I work full time in a career I love.  Would I leave that to support my husband?   Yes in a heart beat.  But I am praying that my husband finds a church that will accept me like I am just as they do him.

Now it is time for my husband to start a new list…create new goals and challenges…I will be right beside him just like I have been for the last 26 years.  Cheering him on.  Encouraging him.  Fighting with him.  Loving him.
